TECO Pneumatic is pleased to offer the Baumer Electric range of sensors for machine sequencing and process automation. Since 1952, Swiss-based Baumer Electric has developed and manufactured highly specialized industrial sensors with an unbending commitment to absolute precision. No sensor manufacturer provides a broader line. Baumer Electric products carry the CE Mark and most are also UL listed. The company's wide product range (more than 30,000 different sensors!) and extensive applications experience enable us to offer you the right sensing solution for your equipment. Please contact your TECO salesperson to discuss this exciting new line or contact us for a set of Baumer Electric catalogs.
Reliability and ease of use make Inductive Proximity Sensors the standard choice for sensing metal targets. Baumer Electric inductive sensors are offered in a wide range of body styles and materials, with tubular and flat bodies offered in nickel-plated brass, polycarbonate and stainless steel. Inductive proximity sensors detect any metal target at distances up to 20mm and are highly insensitive to dirt, humidity, oil and dust. Housing as small as 3mm in diameter are available in this line. Capacity Proximity Sensors are similar to inductive sensors in appearance, but are capable of detecting a wide range of materials such as paper, glass, plastic, oil and water as well as all metals. The sensor head of the high temperature (up to +250 degrees C) unit is composed of Teflon, making it ideal for chemically harsh environments. Photoelectric Sensors reliably detect nearly any materialat ranges from 5mm to 40 meters. These sensors combine precision optics with intelligent electronics and rugged housings to make this a versatile range of sensors. Baumer Electric offers four types of photoelectric sensors in a multitude of housing styles. Through-Beam Sensors offer the largest sensing range and are composed of an emitter and a receiver. Retro-Reflective Sensors transmit a pulsed infrared or red light beam, which is returned to the sensor by a reflector. Diffuse Sensors contain an emitter and a receiver in one housing and use the target itself as a reflector. Finally, Fiber Optic Sensors offer precision detection of position, part orientation and target differentiation through small and easily mounted fibers.
Baumer Electric Sensors & Switches Laser sensors are the standard solution for small object detection. Baumer Electric's digital output laser sensors are the smallest in the industry - some of the envelopes are as small as a sugar cube. They are a perfect alternative to fiber optic sensors when small targets must be detected but close access to the target is not possible. Background suppression, which is available on many Baumer Electric laser sensors, uses triangulation to minimize the effect of color and maximize sensitivity. With a Diffuse Laser Sensor, even very small targets like threads or connecting wires in electronic components are accurately detectable and easily countable. Through-Beam Laser Sensors provide sensing ranges which exceed 20' while maintaining fine detection resolution and superb repeatability. Ultrasonic Sensors are used where color, material or difficult surface properties challenge other sensor types. They are ideal for sensing transparent objects and for liquid level control. An example of an ultrasonic sensor used in a liquid level sensing application is shown on the opposite page. These sensors also offer excellent precision and temperature stability and may be specified with one or two switching points. Both analog and digital versions are available.Ultrasonic sensors are available with an onboard "Teach-In" function. These units are similar to the standard range of ultrasonic sensors, but have the added versatility of simple touch-key set up. By using the Teach-In button, both switching points within the sensing range of the unit may easily be programmed: no tools are required. One on board LED indicates that the Teach-In function is active. A second LED reports the unit has been set. In the analog configuration, current and voltage outputs from the sensor are proportional to the distance of the sensor from the target, with resolution of less than 0.3mm for precise positioning. This allows simple non-contact measurement of position and fill level for liquids or solids. As with photoelectric sensors, Baumer Electric offers Through-Beam and Retro-Reflective ultrasonic proximity sensors. Retro-reflective ultrasonic sensors have no blind zone and are able to detect sound absorbing materials. Ultra-Precision Mechanical Switches from BaumerElectric are the most accurate line of mechanical switches in the world. The patented design of My-Com mechanical switches provide +/- 1 micron (.0004") switching accuracy and switching frequency of 0-10 Hz. End or side facing actuation and watertight housings are available. They are ideal as control stops for X-Y tables. Ten million switching cycles are guaranteed with My-Com ultra-precision mechanical switches.
Baumer Electric Rotary Encoders Rotary Encoders covert rotary mechanical motion into an electric signal. They monitor position, speed, angular motion position and rotational direction. Resolutions as high as 36-bit (280,000 - positions per revolution over 280,00 revolutions) are possible with Baumer Electric rotary encoders. These devices can accommodate shafts with diameters from 1.5mm to 50.8mm in both English and metric dimensions. Baumer Electric encoders support DeviceNet, Profibus, CanOpen SSI, Interbus S and Fiberbus interfaces. This line includes a large range of body styles and magnetic encoders for harsh environments. Mounted well above a tank of liquid glue, the analog output ultrasonic sensor shown below provides noncontact measurement of fill levels. Electronic sensors are the eyes, the ears and the touch of modern automation technology. Detection of the smallest objects, accurate measurement of amounts or heights, part counting at extremely high speeds; if you have an application that calls for precise monitoring and feedback, Baumer Electric sensors can solve your problem with the reliability and efficiency you require. Please contact TECO with your sensor application. We look forward to working with you.
Humphrey Products Provide Solutions Humphrey Products offers a broad range of pneumatic control components and actuators. Like most of the manufacturers represented by TECO Pneumatic, they will modify these components to suit your requirements. Unlike most manufacturers, however, Humphrey Products actively seeks applications that call for completely custom solutions. One of our customers recently asked TECO for an entirely custom air cylinder. Humphrey Products provided the solution. As shown in the photograph below, this 0.375" bore by 0.50" stroke cylinder is used on a very high speed feed application. The rear port swivels and incorporates the proven Humphrey SQE quick exhaust valve to speed retraction time. A deep red anodized finish compliments the customers' design. If you need a pneumatic control component and can't find an off-the-shelf part that suits, please contact TECO and challenge the engineers at Humphrey Products.
All of us at TECO Pneumatic are excited to add the Baumer Electric line of position sensors to our arsenal of motion control hardware. Their business philosophy fits well with TECO's; we both relish working with our customers to solve difficult design problems. For decades TECO has provided solutions to tough pneumatic and motion control design problems. Now we look forward to also addressing your requirements for position sensors. Please call TECO with your most demanding sensing requirements.
