TECO Marks 25 Years with SEMICON

Again this year, as has been the case for every year since 1978, TECO Pneumatic will participate in the Semicon Show at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. This long-term commitment underscores our continuing focus on an industry that is vital to the economy of Northern California.

We will be featuring a wide range of new products from our suppliers, some of which are shown in this newsletter. Please stop by to see us! We will again be in booth 5420 in the North Hall at Moscone Center, on July 14, 15 and 16. If you need credentials to get into the show, contact your TECO salesperson, visit our web site (www.tecopneumatic.com) or call us at 925.426.8500.

THE SMALL ADVANTAGE

Baumer Electric has added ultra-miniature connectors to the smallest inductive sensor offering on the market. These sensors are available in either 3, 4 or 5 mm diameter. The inductive sensor with 5 mm M5 connector is only 24 mm long. With flying lead cable connectors, the length is reduced to only 15mm!

These new inductive proximity sensors incorporate the latest ASIC and flip chip technology and are equipped with fully integrated short-circuit and reverse polarity protection. In spite of their small size, they provide a sensing range of 1 mm and are able to reliably detect fast moving targets due to a 5 kHz switching frequency.

Both 4 and 5 mm compact inductive sensors are CE and UL approved. They accept supply voltages of 10 to 30 VDC with a load current up to 100 mA, and incorporate a bright, easily visible LED indicator. The rugged, vibration-resistant, stainless steel housing with the M5 X 0.5 screw-on connector is rated at IP 67.

If you would like to see these remarkable new position sensors in operation, stop by the TECO Pneumatic booth at Semicon or ask your TECO sales person to show you a sample.

All Threaded Construction Stainless Steel Cylinders

For more years than most of us can remember (since 1947, actually,) Allenair has offered beautiful, reliable, air and hydraulic cylinders. The standard Allenair product is made from precision honed 1/8" thick brass tube with cylinder heads retained by snap rings. TECO Pneumatic and our customers have relied on Allenair for superb delivery and an extraordinary range of standard options. This series of cylinders spans 7/8" to 5" bore and is available in standard stocked strokes to 20" and special strokes to 130".

Several years ago, Allenair produced an all stainless steel version of its snap ring cylinders. The full range of options, excellent delivery and exceptional value that mark all Allenair products are part of this product line.

Now Allenair introduces a new line of stainless steel cylinders with all threaded construction. These cylinders are available in 1-1/8, 1-1/2" and 2" bore and with strokes from 1/8" to 15". Both 300 and 316T stainless versions are available with the full range of Allenair options. Because of all threaded construction, these cylinders meet strict wash down requirements of the FDA and are ideal for any aggressive media environment.

If you have a requirement for a stainless steel cylinder suitable for aggressive environments, please contact your TECO Pneumatic salesperson. We will provide a no cost sample for any qualified OEM application.

New Features On Non-Repairable Cylinders

TECO Pneumatic will be showing two interesting new additions to our offering of round line "non-repairable" air cylinders at the Semicon show.

Norgren now offers "Ecology" impact-dampening piston seals on their round line cylinders that have long been available on their square end tie rod cylinders. They are the only manufacturer to offer this feature in round line cylinders. Available in bore sizes from 3/4" to 2 - 1/2", this option includes non-adjustable air cushions on both extend and retract strokes of the cylinder. The face of the "Ecology" seal extends beyond the face of the piston and minimizes the shock and vibration at end of stroke.

As part of their complete new series of round line cylinders (which covers bores from 5/16 through 3,") Fabco-Air offers a cylinder with a position feedback option. An economical Linear Resistive Transducer (LRT) provides position sensing in applications where traditional magnetic sensing is not appropriate. Position feedback is available on cylinders with bores from 1-1/16" through 3" and strokes to 18." Linearity is +/-1% of stroke and cycle life rating is 500 million inches of travel.

We will be demonstrating the effectiveness of these features in our booth at the Semicon show. If you would like to see either of these interesting cylinder options and will not be at the Semicon show, please ask you TECO salesperson for a sample to examine.

Felxible Kynar PVDF Tube from Freelin-Wade

TECO Pneumatics’ primary supplier of extruded tubing, Freelin-Wade, now offers POMALON®, an economical and remarkably flexible alternative to PTFE, PFA and FEP material. POMALON® tubing is made from a highly flexible Kynar® PVDF compound. It is the ideal tubing for a variety of applications requiring high purity. We have found it useful in medical and pharmaceutical applications, in food and beverage applications, in DI H2O water systems and for tubing applications that do not call for resistance to high temperatures.

Freelin-Wade’s POMALON® tubing meets FDA requirements DFR 177.2600 and UL V-O flame retardant requirements. It may be sterilized by gamma radiation, autoclave or ozone and is acceptable for 3-A sanitary standards on dairy equipment.

POMALON® tubing is available in 1/4", 3/8 & 1/2" OD and in standard lengths from 100’ to 1000’. With a bend radius of only

1/2" for 1/4" OD tube, POMALON is 40% more flexible than other PVDF tubing and may be used with flared fittings.

Chemical resistance information for POMALON® tubing is available at the Freelin-Wade section of the TECO Pneumatic web site, www.tecopneumatic.com. If you would like to test a sample of this material or discuss your application with a TECO salesperson, please call.

New Standard And Custom Solenoid Valves

A New 10mm Valve Series From Humphrey

TECO Pneumatic is very pleased to offer the next step in compact 3 and 4-way valve technology from Humphrey Products; HEA & HEB series valves.

HEA series valves are compatible in footprint, piping and wiring with the very successful Humphrey H040 4-way valve series. HEA valves have an advantage in power consumption (with a reduction from 0.7 to 0.55 watts) and offer a new "low current" option. With this option, the valve will hold after shifting at only 0.15 watts. In addition we can now supply a high-speed 10mm valve in this format with 6ms ON and 7ms OFF. This valve uses 3 watts to shift and 1.1 watts to hold. Each of these valves has a standard grommet connection with LED and may be specified with a moisture resistant connection. All these features are in a package with no reduction in flow, a complete suite of mounting options and at the same great price.

Similar in terms of features to the HEA series, HEB series valves are a three-way valve family backward compatible to Humphrey’s H041 valves. The same advantages in terms of power consumption and operating speed apply. The base price of HEB valves has a 10% price advantage over the H041.

TECO Pneumatic will be showing both these valves and many other new products from Humphrey in our booth 5420 at Semicon West/03.

Solenoid Operated Check Valve

In addition to a very useful line of fittings, manual and specialty valves and small solenoid valves, Pneumadyne does an excellent job with custom products. Illustrated is a solenoid operated check valve. This device was designed to fill a cylinder with gas and hold pressure until the solenoid valve dispenses the gas. The fast operating solenoid valve (10-12 ms) insures that each charged cylinder will generate a specific number of gas outputs.

Ask your TECO sales person about Pneumadyne the next time you need a custom miniature pneumatic component.

Updated Catalog On CD

In time for the Semicon West/03 in July, TECO Pneumatic will have available a new edition of our master catalog set on CD. We are particularly proud of this beautiful, useful, informative tool.

TECO has catalog data available to you in three formats.

Of course, we continue to offer paper catalogs to anyone who wants them. Over the years, our binder set of catalogs has grown to three, three inch, three ring binders — and even this mass of material is never quite complete.

TECO's CD catalog has this all this information with links to most of the manufacturers we represent and downloadable CAD drawings available from many of these manufacturers.

Our most up-to-date information on TECO Pneumatic and the products we offer is found on our frequently updated website. Manufacturers links are present, of course, along with back issues of our newsletter and a variety of technical information.

Whether or not you are interested in the semiconductor industry, you are very welcome to a copy of the new CD catalog. Ask your TECO salesperson or contact us at our website, www.tecopneumatic.com, for your free copy.

Final Thoughts

We look forward to seeing many old friends (and many new friends too!) in booth 5420 at Semicon West/03, July 14, 15 & 16. This is always a good place to take the pulse of one of the industries that is vital to our part of the world. The factors that have made Northern California an economic powerhouse, a well-educated workforce and a unique entrepreneural spirit, remain in place. Generally, we see the pace of business trending upward, with lots of new development work going on in the high tech and bio-med sectors that will blossom in the near future.

If you need a ticket for the Semicon West/03 or a copy of the new catalog CD, please contact your TECO Salesperson, call our office or contact us at www.tecopneumatic.com. Thanks for thinking of TECO when you have automation applications.
