Fabco-Air has one more new product
offering, introducing a new variation of their PANCAKE CYLINDER. We have
mentioned in many of our past Newsletters, Fabco-Air was the originators of
the Pancake design. Al Schmidt of Fabco-Air designed the first Pancake in
1957. From there it had grown to many types, variations and copycats.
Fabco-Air’s latest variation is one using outside tie-rods and a tube for the cylinder: It looks like Brand B, is an exact interchange with Brand B, and has added features that can help on tough applications. As on all Fabco-Air Pancake cylinders, they know the rod bearing is an important wear point and they use non-metallic Duralon bearings, which are self-lubricating, have a very low coefficient of friction and 60,000 PSI load rating. The cylinder wall material is a composite material, which also is self-lubricating, low coefficient of friction, smooth wall and impact resistant. All these are very important considerations when designing an air cylinder.

SPECIFICATIONS
All Faztek extrusions have a 2-degree, inward taper lock in the T-slot. When a fastener is tightened in the slot, this inward taper distorts upward and acts as a lock washer. Thus it helps hold your frame rigid.

If weight is a consideration in your design, and the frame will not need to support a heavy load, Faztek has a 1 1/2 inch cross-section with thinner walls, which is 15% lighter than the standard "light" 1 1/2 inch profile. This can be used for guarding, walls and other light duty applications.
Faztek will powder coat extrusions or color anodize in your choice of colors. Powder coating is the more economical of the two choices as the standard clear anodized coating must be stripped before color anodizing. 24-Hour response is standard with Faztek. Many years ago there was a play (and later a movie) called The Moon is Blue, which was a fun, innocent love story. The opening scene is when boy meets girl. The man is an architect and tells of going back many times at night to look at a plain warehouse, which was his first architectural project. This was TECO’s first project with Faztek and we were pleased with our baptism assembling Faztek extrusions into something useful. It is a test fixture frame with two acrylic shelves and a bottom shelf of perforated sheet metal. Once we had the design from our customer, Faztek had drawings to us within that 24-hour window. When drawings were signed an order was placed and in 24 hours product shipped. We encountered the expected learning curve, but shipped the assembly on time for the customer’s application.
